Spanish Films ? Hey, I'm looking to improve my spanish and I was wandering if any speakers of the language could advise me on some great films to watch. I really like historical drama movies in particular or anything romantic! Thanks! |
Hi, here's a few I've watched and liked:
Y Tu Mama También
Diários de Motocicleta
Mar Adentro
La Mala Educación
El Crimen del Padre Amaro
Amores Perros
You'll probably like Diarios de Motocicleta and El Crimen del Padre Amaro more than the others.
Hope this helps! |
Spanish films? Hi there, I'm just starting learning Spanish at University and am enjoying it! Since I'm a beginner I'm trying to throw myself into the language like I do with German. I watch many German films, listen to German music, know about tele etc!
So please, can you recommend good, popular Spanish films for me to watch? In Spanish of course! Please tell me briefly what they are about too so I can choose which ones interest me! Also if they're are any good Spanish music bands out there that are popular in Spain. I like most music!
Thanks so much for your help.
p.s. I've got Pans Labyrinth and everytime I hear the language being spoken, it makes me want to learn even more! |
For European Spanish and one a young female might like: La Niña de tus Ojos, Jamon Jamon. For Mexican Spanish: Y Tu Mama Tambien.
La Niña de tus Ojos: starring Peneloe Cruz, as part of a filmmaking team who leave Franco's Spain to go to Hitler's Germany for a co-production by the two countries. Actually funny and sad.
Jamon Jamon: Starring Javier Bardem (also in No Country for Old Men) as a man hired by a rich woman to seduce Penelope Cruz's character so that the rich woman's son breaks off the engagement to Cruz.
Y Tu Mama Tambien: road trip movie starring the maid from Pan's Labyrinth, getting into adventures with two young guys (Diego Luna and Gabriel Garcia Bernal). |
Can anyone suggest any good spanish films? (with english subtitles)

I've watched Pan's labyrinth and planning on watching The Devil's Backbone and The Orphanage. Anyone got any more suggestions?
Thanks in advance! |

What are some good Spanish films to watch? Some Spanish films I like are 'Y tu mama tambien' , 'Amores perros', 'Sin Nombre' and 'Todo sobre mi madre'. I don't want anything too sad or anything scary.
Thanks! |
| My teacher showed us "Los pasiones gaviones" [i think that's the name of it] it was a soap opera, and was a little rated r at times, but i liked it :) |
Why are Spanish films always so deep? I'm minoring in Spanish at my university, I love the language and culture. But i can never understand why they don't ever make "normal" films. All their films are dark, depressing and have no music besides instrumental. Please tell me if I'm wrong and let me know if there are Spanish films that are light-hearted and funny! Every film i've seen will have a funny scene or two, but the majority of the movie is depressing and it's shot like a documentary (no technology or soundtrack). Why is this? They have funny tv shows, why not funny movies? |
| hahaha and i thought i was to only one to ever think that... |
What are some good popular Spanish films? Hey, I'm in a Spanish class and we have to watch a Spanish film, but I have no clue what to watch. Any suggestions? Preferably something teenagers like to watch |
VOLVER - this is absolutely the best light hearted film for spanish speakers - it is about two sisters who believe they are being visited by their mothers ghost, when really she is alive. it surrounds also the murder of one of the sisters husbands - and a friends search for who mother. it is a very good film.
EL ESPINAZO DEL DIABLO - this is by the same director as EL LABERINTO DEL FAUNO. it takes place in an orphanage for guyren whose parents are helping the resistance against the Franco regime in Spain. it focuses on a boy being visited by the spirit of another boy who was murdered by one of the grounds keeper. this too is a very good film.
LA MALA EDUCACION - this is by the same director as VOLVER. it surrounds the story of two gay men who formed their relationship in catholic school, were then separated and in the present take of the movie reunited(?). this wasn't that good a movie as the trailer for it showed.
vovler/ el espinazo del diablo - i would recommend for those 14-17
la mala educacion - i would recommend for those 17-19 (just because of the topic and there are some sex scenes between the two men.) |
Some good spanish films that i can get on DVD? I am quarter spanish and have been trying to learn the spanish language for the past year, ive heard that watching spanish films with english subtitles could help(or vice versa im not sure lol), does anyone know any? or just any spanish films :) thanks |
| Entre Las Piernas(1997). Don't let the title spook you, its just to draw an audience in. I cannot recommend that movie highly enough. It is a very clever mystery, with a great soundtrack. It stars Javier Bardem, who just won an Oscar for No Country for Old Men. Hope you can find it. |
